From Chicago to Congo

..specifically, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and  "Not to be confused with the neighbouring Republic of the Congo or the People's Republic of the Congo." (wiki)

An ocean and worlds apart, it occurred to me while thinking about the conflicts between and among non-white people in Chicagoland and those in the "Congo" that there is an indirect but undeniable connection that bind the two.

In the "Congo" you have factions (gangs?) that have been supplied with weapons and they fight each other over territory and the naturally occurring minerals found there.

Sometimes known as conflict minerals the "conflict" has resulted in almost 6 million people dead and literally countless injured in about 16 years time...in the Congo alone! ...Ol' man Leopold II must be either jealous or proud or both...

In Chicagoland you have factions (gangs?) that have also been supplied with weapons and they too  fight each other over territory and imported, unnatural poisons incorrectly labeled as "drugs." The end result: Yet more dead and injured black people.

I admit the connection between the two places and groups is somewhat loose, but the undeniable fact is that from Chicago to the Congo, two places where the non-white populations are pretty resource poor (in terms of the control of resources) they somehow are able to acquire a seeming endless supply of weapons of mass murder.

In the first instance the "spoils of war", the minerals, get exported (stolen?) all over the world  for the manufacture of cellphones, mp3 players, and engagement rings.

In the second, I'm undecided on the "spoils of war." Maybe the irony is that there simply are none. Yet it does keep employed the coroner, the detectives, the "vice" squad, and the guy who manufactures, ships (smuggles) and sells guns.

Regardless of the seeming "looseness" of the argument,  I contend that the two - Congo and Chicago - do not occur in a vacuum ...as nothing does.
